Tall and green
with an open eye.
She pled me to listen
and whispered
leaf-wise
I have lived
for lamentable years
with animal
and man
Humans
divided from a single cell
you sell each other
one lie multiplied by another
And you, as children
Climbed my limbs
and my trunk
I forgave the bumps and scrapes
Now, I watch your children play
I’m dismayed
by the fences, you must create
to keep them in and safe
I tower over the boxes
you call houses
and obnoxious cars
you drive incautiously
The traumatic loss
of my family
won’t stop me from flourishing
nor will it pause my grief
Am I a symbol of mercy
or disesteem
deemed expendable
by humans?
Or am I like you
a true sign of strength
only to be desecrated
by man-made absurdity?
Tall and green
with an open eye
she pled me to listen
as she whispered
leaf-wise

I love listening to your voice as you read your poems. It's like hitting the pause button on life, and I need that sometimes.
this is one of the most breathtaking pieces I've come across in some time woah, especially when you read this aloud. I love how "she whispered leaf-wise" is such a powerful phrase that disarms you.
